10 Daily Practices for Witches to Nurture Their Craft by Melissa from The Lost Book Project

daily witchcraft, daily magic, witchcraft, witch, witchy, hedgewitch, hedge witch, green witch, kitchen witch, wicca, wiccan, pagan, magick, magic, spiritual, occult, cunning folk, daily magic, meditation, tarot, mindfulness, affirmations, gratitude, elemental magic, elemental witchcraft

Greetings, magical humans! Are you looking to deepen your witchcraft practice and cultivate a more witchy life? If so, you’re in the right place. My name is Melissa, from The Lost Book Project. Today I am looking at 10 daily witchy practices that will not only strengthen your connection to the mystical world, but also help to bring joy and balance to your everyday life. I hope you’re ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery, transformation and magical practice.

1. Grounding and Centering

You should begin your day by connecting with the Earth's energy. Find a quiet space, sit or stand comfortably, and visualize roots extending from your feet into the ground. Draw in the Earth's energy and feel it flow through your body. This daily practice helps you remain grounded and centered, allowing you to face the day with confidence and balance.

2. Mindful Meditation

Set aside at least 10-15 minutes each day for meditation. If you don’t have the time for 10-15 minutes, then I prescribe at least 30 minutes each day. This will help you clear your mind, relax, and sharpen your intuition. Focus on your breath or try a guided meditation designed for witches, such as those that call upon your spirit guides, deities, or the elements.

3. Daily Gratitude

You can cultivate an attitude of gratitude by recording 3 things you are grateful for each day. This simple practice helps shift your mindset to positivity, allowing you to attract more blessings and abundance into your life.

4. Elemental Connection

Build a stronger bond with the elements—Earth, Air, Fire, and Water—by incorporating them into your daily routine. You can light a candle for Fire, burn incense for Air, place a bowl of water on your altar for Water, or surround yourself with crystals or plants for Earth.

5. Tarot or Oracle Cards

Pull a daily card from your favorite tarot or oracle deck to receive guidance and insight for the day ahead. Reflect on the card's message and consider how it relates to your current situation or challenges. This practice will help you develop your intuition and connect with your spiritual guidance system.

6. Journaling

It’s incredibly important to maintain a witches journal to record your thoughts, dreams, spells, rituals, and divination readings. This will not only help you track your progress as a witch but also serves as a valuable resource for reflection and personal growth. Try setting aside a few minutes each day to jot down your experiences and insights.

7. Moon Phase Awareness

Attune yourself with the lunar cycle by observing the moon's current phase and incorporating its energy into your daily activities. For example, focus on new beginnings during the New Moon, release what no longer serves you during the Full Moon, and practice self-reflection during the Waning Moon.

8. Energy Cleansing

Keep your energy field and living space clear by regularly practicing energy cleansing. Use methods like smoke cleansing, ringing bells or chimes, or spritzing a cleansing spray. This helps remove stagnant energy and negativity, creating a harmonious environment for your magical practice.

9. Affirmations and Visualization

Empower your intentions by repeating positive affirmations and visualizing the outcomes you desire. This can be done during meditation, while performing spells or rituals, or even as you go about your daily activities. Positive affirmations and visualization help to align your energy with your goals, making them more attainable.

10. Connecting with Your Magical Community

Nurture your relationships with fellow witches and spiritual seekers by participating in online forums, attending workshops or meetups, or simply sharing your experiences with like-minded friends. Building a supportive magical community is essential for growth, inspiration, and encouragement on your witchcraft journey.

***

Incorporating these daily practices into your life will help you strengthen your connection to the magical world and enhance your witchcraft skills. Remember, consistency is key, so try to make time each day for these practices, even if it's just for a few minutes. Additionally, take the time to read books and study various aspects of witchcraft to deepen your understanding and expand your knowledge base. The more you learn, the more powerful and effective your practice will become.

Your dedication will soon pay off as you find yourself more attuned to the energies around you, ready to embrace your magical power and live a life full of enchantment and wonder. Engage with the wealth of wisdom available in the form of books, online resources, and even the experiences of fellow practitioners. As you continue to grow and learn, you'll become a more confident and capable witch, ready to navigate the mysteries of the magical realm.

Blessed be, and allow your witchcraft journey be filled with curiosity, discovery, and endless enchantment!

Magic in the Workplace

Magic in the Workplace

When it comes to magic, it can be used everywhere and anywhere, including in the workplace. Now I know some of you think that you can't live a magical life or represent your magical life where you work, but I assure you there are many ways you can, whether you have a desk or not. As many of you know, I am a teacher. If I can manage to bring a little magic into my classroom, you can bring a little magic to your cubicle, job site, cash register, or wherever else you work. All it takes is a little intention and some creative thinking.

First of all, why should you add magic to your workspace? For me, it brings some sense of calm and comfort. Knowing that I have a sigil in the top drawer of my desk, an amethyst geode on my shelf, the sound of running water, and some enchanted wax melts to make my room smell incredible helps relieve a lot of the stress I would otherwise feel at work. Furthermore, it allows me to continue my magical practice through simple daily rituals. Hopefully, it will help you feel the same way, and for those risky jobs, it should bring you some protection while for those looking for more clients and to stay gainfully employed, it should help you overcome those issues as well.

Some of these suggestions require a desk, while many others do not. Obviously, those working out in the field or in retail don't have the option of a desk, but there are other ways you can use magic. Not all of these ideas will work for everyone, so pick and choose which ones are best for your intended space.

1. Crystals

Crystals are an inconspicuous way to add some magic to your workplace. Which crystal you choose to display or hide if you must, is dependent on what you wish to accomplish in the workplace. Below is a list of different crystals and their uses in the workplace.
Stress relief and calm- Amethyst
Protection- Black tourmaline, Jet (especially for empaths), or Obsidian
Reduce gossip- Labradorite
Increase communication- Blue Calcite or Amazonite
Boost sales and bring in clients- Peridot, Citrine, Topaz, Tiger's Eye
Creativity- Sodalite
Concentration- Hematite
Improve leadership skills- Green Aventurine
Promotion- Citrine
Boost memory- Azurite
Increase learning- Green Tourmaline
Be decisive- Amber
These crystals can be worn, placed on or in a desk/shelf, kept in your car/truck, or tucked into a pocket, bag, toolbox, or anything else being carried to a job site. Begin by cleansing the crystal then charging it with your intent. Depending on how much you are using the crystal, especially those for protection will determine how often you need to recharge them. If a crystal breaks, you need to replace it. This is a sign that the crystal has done its job and cannot handle anymore. Be sure to thank it and bury it.

2. Sigils

Like crystals, these are a great inconspicuous way to add some magic at work. They can easily be written on a sticky note or piece of paper and safely tucked away out of sight. If you have a cubicle, you could display your sigil as a daily reminder to keep you on task and focused. Also like crystals, you can create sigils for just about everything, from increasing communication to protection to boosting memory to encouraging a promotion. Sigils are great for those who need some magic on the go, like construction workers and retail workers without a desk. Sigils can be drawn in the inside of hardhats, on tools, inside of clothing, on your skin, or on a cash register. You don't have to draw them permanently either for them to work. Using your finger to "draw" the sigil onto an item is just as powerful as a written one or you can use essential oils for an extra punch

3. Sounds

If you can play music or have abient noise, sounds are a great way to increase vibrations in a workspace. I have a fish tank in my classroom, and the running water raises the natural vibration of my room. No matter how I or the students come into my room feeling, they immediately calm down and reach a state of balance...all because of the sound of running water. If you are in a place where you can have a fountain or fish tank, get one. If you can't, try playing really low sounds of running water, whale noises, or Celtic music in the background on your phone, computer, or radio. Just listening to calming sounds on the way to and from work will increase your vibration.

Sound can also be used to cleanse a space of negative energy. If you are able to, ring a bell around your workspace prior to beginning work that day. It will help remove stagnant energy and any negativity that may have settled since your left. Most people can't have candles or incense at work for various health and safety concerns, so sound is a great alternative.

4. Wax melts

If you work somewhere that allows scented items, but not flame or smoke, wax melts are a great alternative. I work in such an environment and not only does it bring some magic to my room, it covers up the smell of high schoolers. Yeah...I always purchase "mild" seasonal scents, avoiding things that smell too fake. Before I melt the wax, I like to carve a sigil or mantra into the wax melt that corresponds with what I'd like to bring to my classroom or manifest in my life that day. This adds an extra layer of witchiness to the act.

5. Plants

There are so many benefits to having plants around your workplace, whether they are on your desk or just around the office. They help purify the air and raise the natural vibration of the space. Furthermore, they help with mental health in general. Snake plants, spider plants, and succulents are great plants for workspaces as they often do well in artificial light. You can even hide some crystals in their soil. I have an aloe plant named Jeffery in my classroom. My students absolutely love him. If you work somewhere where you can't keep plants, take note of the natural plants around where you work, whether they be outside your building or near your worksite. Simply taking stock of nature will help ground and center you.

6. Enchanted Objects

Enchanting your everyday objects with protection, grounding, increased communication, or whatever else you need in the workplace can be used by everyone, no matter where they work. Enchant your keys to get you to work safely; your keyboard, pencil, or pen to communicate effectively; your tools to get the job done efficiently; your safety gear for protection. There are endless possibilities when it comes to enchanting objects. Just be clear in your intent and visualize the magic and you're done!

7. Prayer

I know prayer seems like a totally Christian thing to do, but I assure you that it is a very witchy thing to do. Prayer is just a verbal spell and highly effective. Even if you don't believe in any deities, you can still pray to the Universe, Mother Earth, or the All for protection, inspiration, and peace of mind while at work. I encourage you to say a brief prayer before entering work, even if it is just asking for the strength to deal with people! It'll help focus your mind on your intention and raise your personal vibration prior to starting work.

No matter how you decided to add some magic to your workplace, its a great way to live a magical life every day. I encourage you to do what works best for you. How do you incorporate magic into the workplace? Is there something you do that I haven't listed? Please leave a comment below! You never know who may benefit from your suggestion.

10 Ways to Have a Magical Evening

10 Ways to Have a Magical Evening

Following my last post, 10 Ways to Have a Magical Morning, it makes sense to cover how to have a magical evening as well. Again, I would like to say you are by no means obligated to perform magic on a daily basis. I certainly don't, but if you are looking for ways to have a more magical day, consider incorporating the following into your daily routine.

1. Take some time to meditate. This makes a lot of lists, and for a good reason. Meditation, even just 5 minutes relieves stress and lowers blood pressure. Furthermore, it's a great way to reconnect and recenter after a long.

2. Write about your day in a journal. It doesn't seem very magical, but writing about your day before bed allows you to rid yourself of negatively and provides you an opportunity to analyze your day from a magical perspective. Did you notice the same number repeatedly? Did someone say or do something odd? Did you receive any messages from spirits? When you start keeping a daily journal, you may find that the Universe and Spirit are trying to communicate with you, and what is more magical than that?

3. Cleanse your phone. You and I both know you are attached to that darn thing. Before you go to bed, wipe it down (not very magical but prevents disease) and magically cleanse it. You'd be surprised how much this changes your evening. Once you cleanse it, don't use it again until morning. This symbolic ritual will help you wind down in the evening and leave one of your most used devices clear of negativity energy.

4. Set your intentions for the following day. I'm a planner and I like to be prepared so I spend some time figuring out what I want out of the next day. I usually keep things pretty general and positive.

5. Wash your face to wash away the day. You do this in the morning and you should do it at night before bed. Don't bring that crap into bed with you. Seriously! Let it wash away down the sink. Imagine the water you use is infused with golden healing light. As you wash, it pulls away all the negativity from the day and infuses your skin with health and vibrancy.

6. Bask in the rays of the Moon. The Moon is a pretty big deal in witchcraft in case you didn't know. When she finally rises, go outside and soak in her glow. This is the most magical thing I do. Nothing beats staring up her and feeling her gentle embrace. Talk to her if you want. She is there to listen.

7. Ground and center using the Earth or crystals. I use my black tourmaline to ground and center before bed if I am having a hard time falling asleep. I simply hold the crystal in my hand with my eye closed and focus on my breathing. I imagine my feet growing roots that sink deep into the Earth. I shuts my brain off pretty quickly.

8. Expand your mind by reading a book. It really doesn't matter if the book is witchy or not. It is magical just to read and escape for a little while. I try to read at least 15 minutes every day. Put away the computer and the phone and pick up a book.

9. Enchant your pillow to bring good dreams by spraying your pillow with a calming mist. I have a mist infused with essential oils that brings happiness. This is what I use most often, but other choices can include mists with lavender, sage, or chamomile. Make sure whatever you use is safe to touch your face as you will be sleeping on it.

10. Place amethyst next to your bed to enhance dreaming. If you are looking to perform some dream magic, amethyst is a great crystal to use. It enhances psychic abilities, opens you up to dream messages, and even will help you remember them in the morning. Make sure to record them in a dream journal when you wake up!

BONUS: If you wear glasses or contacts, enchant them in the evening when you clean them to bring you insight the following day.

Most of what you do in the evening should be a reflection on the current day and washing away any negativity so you can start anew the next day. How do you have a magical evening?

10 Ways to Have a Magical Morning

10 Ways to Have a Magical Morning

Practicing magic daily has been a hot topic in witchy groups everywhere, so I figured I would share some of the ways I have a magical day. First and foremost, I want to make it known that there is no rule that says you have to practice magic every day to be a 'good' witch. If I am honest, I don't often feel like I am practicing magic, even with a morning routine, and you might not either. That's okay. Sometimes I go weeks, even months without really practicing my craft. I encourage you to do what works best for you. You are still a witch, even if you aren't actively practicing magic.

1. Enchant your toothpaste with a protection spell. As a witch with a genetic disease resulting in the continuous break down of my teeth, this is something I recently started doing in an attempt to try anything that could possibly give me relief. First, I use a medicated toothpaste, so already on the protection train, but I also enchanted it for some extra help. There are several ways you can do this. For me, I sat the toothpaste next to some protective crystals related to teeth health such as fluorite and citrine that were charged with intent and lit a white candle. I asked that the crystals and candle work together to increase the protective nature of the toothpaste. Pretty simple really.

2. Carve protective sigils in your deodorant before use to bring you luck, prosperity, courage, patients, or anything else you need. This one is pretty fun. Use something sharp, like a paperclip to lightly carve your sigil into your deodorant. If you want your deodorant to bring the same characteristic, simply draw it in marker on the container itself. If you make your own deodorant, consider picking essential oils that could bring you whatever you are looking for.

3. Imagine all negative or unwanted energies washing away during your morning shower or face wash. This one is pretty simple. Personally, I don't shower in the morning often, but when I do, I imagine my troubles washing down the drain and the warm water bringing renewing energies. I do wash my face in the morning and imagine the same thing.

4. Cleanse your bed of old energy as you make it. I do this by fluffing the pillows and wiping the comforter and imagining I am beating/wiping out the negative, stale energy and charging it with positively.

5. Infuse your morning coffee or tea with intent. Some people do this by stirring it clockwise or drawing sigils. I do it by holding the cup and imagining I am infusing it with positive energizing energy. I love just holding the cup in two hands, closing my eyes, and breathing in the smell. I'm a tea drinker personally and love French Breakfast teas laced with honeysuckle.

6. Bless your keys for safe travel. Even if you don't drive, you likely carry a set of keys with you at all times. Ask them to keep you safe until you return home. Why not put a crystal keychain on your keys to amplify the magic?

7. Practice simple glamour magic. If you wear makeup, enchant your makeup. If you don't, enchant your facewash, face lotion, or shave gel for the same purposes. Personally, I like to draw sigils on my face in foundation because I am extra like that. You can do the same with whatever you are using in the morning on your face. Ladies and gentlemen, if you are NOT moisturizing, you best start. Get with it!

8. Eat REAL food. This seems kind of mundane, but eating processed foods screws up your aura and is just bad for you. Skip the cereal for something real like eggs, avocado toast, oatmeal, or fresh fruit. I eat avocado toast with a soft boiled egg on top. Sometimes I throw in a banana as well or save it for a snack later.

9. Briefly meditate, draw an oracle card, or practice yoga. If you have time, spend 5 to 10 minutes meditating or doing some yoga to get ready for the day. If you don't, simply drawing one oracle card to see how the theme of the day is quick and fun. I usually pull it, jot it down, and research it while I am eating breakfast. I don't do this very often though, instead preferring to zone out during breakfast. Yes, zoning out of my form of meditation. I do it while running too.

10. Say a mantra. Every morning before I leave for work, I say "I've got this." I often don't feel like I do. In fact, my anxiety is constantly telling me I don't, but saying it out loud helps me recognize that I do. Heck, just being positive and smiling while you say it will change your day. You can also just give gratitude in the morning. It is hard to be negative when you are being thankful.

These are some quick and easy methods to infuse your morning with magic, and they are all gender-neutral. I see a lot of lists out there that are geared more towards women and I wanted to remedy that a bit. How do you make your mornings magical?
